The option (or whatever) that the checkbox relates to would be selected or cleared, but the check box itself would be checked or unchecked. This side of the pond it would be ticked or unticked.

Yes. The option is enabled or disabled. Don't call attention to the UI
control checked or unchecked status (according to MSTP).
