What is the scope of the script?
Dialog only? Dialog and blocking?
Who's going to be acting the script?
What is the final product?

As with any discipline, the tools do not make you proficient, but having the right tools can make tasks nicer to do.

Celtx has a nice suite of free-ish script writing and media production tools:

Cheers!
