I thought the search was OK for attachments in Word format (though
that was a few years ago and MS might have broken it in the meantime).
Worked poorly or not at all for PDFs or any other non-Office format.
If it did find something in a PDF it didn't open the PDF to that page
(i.e. apparently no byte serving).
