Anyone familiar with the major differences between these two versions of
Acrobat?

I've read the rest of this thread, and understand that the original poster didn't need advanced features such as creating shared PDF reviews. But because lots of people do use Acrobat for a shared review, I thought I'd chime in.

* Here's the Acrobat X comparison matrix: http://prodesigntools.com/compare-difference-adobe-acrobat-x-10-reader-standard-pro-suite.html.

* Here's the "Document Cloud" comparison matrix: https://acrobat.adobe.com/us/en/pricing/pricing-compare-plans.html.

Both would indicate that Standard can be used for the shared reviews. *HOWEVER* (at least for Acrobat 9), if you use Standard to create the reviews, all reviewers must also have Standard (or better). If you want reviewers to be able to use the *free Acrobat Reader*, you must use Pro to prepare the reviews.

The Adobe forums are filled with people repeatedly discovering this and having a devil of a time dealing with it. There's an argument to be made that the Standard has a bug -or- that Adobe's comparison matrix is just plain wrong/incomplete/misleading. There actually is an awful work-around if you do use Standard to create the shared reviews: add some specific JavaScript code directly into the PDF object--not pretty.
