I have two problems that I have never seen before in all the years I've
been using Word. They both show up after I save and close the documents and
then reopen them. Both involve cross-references.

1--references to tables disappear. Where there used to be a visible
reference to a table number or title or page, there is nothing but what
looks like a blank space. If I highlight the area and toggle the code, the
REF field appears. I can update it and it appears to be all right. But the
next time I open the document, the field has gone invisible again.

2--references to section heading numbers go to 0. Where there was a
reference to "Section X.Y", after I reopen the document I see "Section 0".
Updating the field does not restore the proper section number.

Both these problems keep coming back no matter how many times I replace
them. This is in Word 2013 running under Windows 7 Enterprise with SP 1.

Anyone have any ideas how to fix these?
