Mac OS has scripting capabilities built into the environment:
* AppleScript
* Python
* PHP
* bash shell
* Application scripting (VBA, etc.)

Users can map their keyboards to perform menu tasks by using App Shortcuts.

And I'm sure there are a multitude other utilities I don't use.

But you said you didn't need to know the how, only if it's possible. ;-)
