This ruling is about what defines an independent contractor, not about how many people are in the labor market as one.

I doubt the BLS is doing data mining of business licenses, but if they are I still won't be in their technical writer numbers because my title is "Owner."

Local rules in places like San Jose require that 1099 consultants have a business license, so business license data could be of use, if that is available.
