ISO/IEC/IEEE 26514 has detailed advice on writing for translation, also on
localization. This standard has been around for a long time and is being
revised, but the advice on this topic is still good. 
ISO/IEC/IEEE 26511:2018 clause 11 has a good extended discussion on managing
translation and localization.
 
Some of those Chinese students with excellent English have the advantage of
having been students in the US or UK.
