Stuart Selbe offers an excellent list of questions. I'm encouraging some of
my tech. comm. majors to explore possible ways feminist theory could influence
technical communication in positive ways without running into "gender" stereo-
types. For instance, the present emphases on usability testing and audience
analysis could be viewed as "nurturing" behaviors, in contrast to an older,
masculine-logic-dominated documentation that didn't care much about readers or
users. We could view these concerns for user/readers either as a feminization
of the field, or assimply good rhetorical practice.
Which is it?
