Hi! I have another call for help.

I am heading up a task group charged with sketching
out a very important step in the process of creating documents:
defining the purpose and the audience.

The recent thread on this list about doc. plans resulted in
several replies that started out with "Step 1: Define your
scope, purpose, and audience." This is obviously necessary,
but exactly what process do you use?

What questions do you ask?

Whom do you speak with?

While you may feel that your technique is quite ordinary, I
know that I and others will benefit from knowing your method.
You may choose to either reply to techwr-l or to me at

I will post a summary of replies.

Thanks for your help!

ps: You may choose to be as specific or as broad as you'd like.
My task group is charged with developing a broad draft and coming
up with specifics later. As always, you may also point me toward
a helpful article from _Technical Communication_.

Thanks! To quote Bonni, "I love you guys!" :-)
