When Caputo wonders about bringing together multimedia for educational
purposes, he is really defining the field of instructional technology.
The program at University of Illinois is good (my friend went from there
to Arthur Anderson as a training developer and then to microsoft as
director of computer based training -- she began as a high school teacher
who was disappointed with prospects). The other program I know about is
at Utah State in Logan. I taught a seminar there last summer on computer
documentation and had several students in class who were doing grad
degrees in instructional tech. My reservation is that it seemed to be a
technology driven program with very little in the way of governing theory.
