FOR PROPOSALS HAS BEEN PUSHED BACK TO JUNE 15.

NOTE ALSO that the item in the May Writing Lab Newsletter is incorrect;
June 15 _remains_ the deadline for proposals, _not_ April 30.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS

Midwest Writing Centers Asociation Fall Conference

October 7 & 8, 1994
Kansas City, Missouri

Center or Margins: Sites of Change

and/or Changing Sites?

Keynote Speaker: Nancy Grimm, Michigan Technological University

The Midwest Writing Centers Association invites proposals for
presentations at its annual fall conference. The MWCA conference is for
writing center directors, tutors, peer tutors, teachers, administrators,
and others who work in writing programs at any educational level.

Advantages have come with the academic acceptance of writing centers,
increased budgets and improved facilities among them. Yet compromise and
disadvantage have also come into play: as insiders, we may be less able to
see the institutional whole or less willing to advocate for change or
implement experimental practices.

Our conference theme asks us to locate ourselves as in- or outside the
mainstream and to assess the limits and strengths of our current position;
it also asks us to consider whether increased acceptance will lead us to
redefine our role as advocates of nontraditional approaches to learning.
In other words, it asks us to map out the bridges leading from boundaries
to center and to test whether those bridges allow for two-way passage.

The program chairs encourage proposals for individual and panel
presentations, worksshops, and think tanks. To submit a proposal, complete
the accompanying form and mail or FAX to:
