Shelly...At least he asks your help--and presumably more than once! That's a
good sign!

I know it took me (I hate to admit it) quite awhile before I could take editing
of my own work very well. And I still find that my good grace sometimes depends
on the good grace of the editor.

I think that quite a bit of the actual job of being an editor, depending on
where you work, is being socially skilled at maintaining a cooperative (as
opposed to adversarial) relationship with the writer. Perhaps that's why I've
always tended toward writing, instead--in some ways it's easier! The only ego I
have to deal with is my own!
