Date traps (was: Year 2000)

Subject: Date traps (was: Year 2000)

Just changing the subject back from how dates are stored internally to how they
are displayed externally, in many parts of the world the composition date of
this message is 11/12/94. Which does not mean that it was written before the
thread started, not that it's been wandering round the Net for nearly a month.
It means that the date convention where I live is DD/MM/YY.

So 08/17/00 has never been and never will be, in any year, and if my birthday
happened to be in the 8th month of the year, I'd insist on writing it as Aug
(or even AUG). Well ... maybe I wouldn't any more.
