Ive worked as an engineer, as well as a writer (and even
as an engineering writer). Engineers tend not to write
well; therefore, not writing well is sometimes taken to be
the hallmark of a _real_ engineer; therefore, writing is
sometimes taken to be an unimportant task.

Engineers are really normal people who have normal interests
outside their work. If you work with them regularly, you
will probably develop a certain rapport based on outside
interests and (eventually) common experiences (read
tribulations) working together on projects.

In the end, they will appreciate anything you can do to make
their jobs easier. Occasionally, some of them will realize
that good documentation reflects favorably of the work that
is being documented. You can make them look good.
