I agree with Glen. When I interview, I want to know something
about the process of creating the work. I'm aware as a writer
that there are many different kinds of projects -- I've worked
on a lot of them. I tell my interviewer what parts I played in
the manual. For instance, here is a sample of something I did
from scratch, here is something I updated and I rewrote this
chapter entirely, here I had a big say in the format but it
was a team effort, etc. If a person cannot speak to that level,
then I have to wonder.

One person I interviewed told me that the manual was put
together of canned samples that he rewrote to make specific
for the state he was in. He then told my boss that he
wrote the whole manual from scratch. This may have been
a communication problem, but it did confound me. He wasn't
hired.

I do love interviews. I always take lots of samples and it's
fun to get attention for my work. I hate it when I bring samples
and no one looks at them! But I forgive the people when they
hire me anyway... :-)
