============== request for info
Debbie Molinaro is looking for individuals to share expert system
info and ideas. I am looking as well. The AI forum, while
interesting, doesn't meet my needs.

If you are a programmer/engineer/writer turned knowledge base
developer, and you are interested in forming a new group or joining
our group of two, let me know.

============== more definition

Expert Systems are a subset of Knowledge-Based Systems, which
are a subset of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Expert systems include rule-based paradigms. An example of a
rule-based paradigm is the conventional fault isolation that our
military likes so much. This is the classic IF-THEN-ELSE logic that
goes quite nicely into a knowledge base. Expert systems normally
include an inference engine that manipulates facts and is not part of
the program.

Kowledge-based systems are expert systems (rule-based) that also apply
conventional analytical tools to deal with complexities. Examples
include pattern recognition and case-based reasoning.
===Val, correct me if I am wrong.

Expert systems and knowledge-based systems are data driven. They can
run alone or interactively.

AI includes much more than knowledge-based and expert systems.
Examples include a computer that writes its own code, and a robot
equipped with visual sensors that control its mechanical parts.
