Choose words that have (as near as possible) unique meanings rather than
words with several possible meanings. Create a "dictionary" of permitted words

Basic English, which was tried shortly after WW 2 and flopped, took the
opposite approach. It had a small vocabulary (800 words, 1,000 for the
Bible) and used compounds and overloaded words very heavily.
