I think the QA people could be great allies. Perhaps cooperation would be
easier if we had something like an internal procedures handbook, something QA
people could read and use to judge our work.

Without such fixed procedures the QA people can do hardly more than chase
spelling errors in our texts.

BTW, this procedures handbook would help new or temporary staff to write. Even
you might benefit from it at tasks you do every few months.
