I think we're confusing two issues:

* The difference between salaries of men and women in technical
communication jobs.

* The difference between salaries of technical communicators and
those of other technical professionals -- like engineers and
programmers.

I think it's the second that the original poster was alluding to in
suggesting that this difference has increased as the proportion of technical
communicators who are men has decreased.

I don't have any idea whether or not this is true, but I know that skilled
technical communicators here in the SF Bay Area/Silicon Valley -- both men
and women -- can do very well. ...RM
