I have a broader job than the rest of y?all seem to have. The company I work
for does training and writes software for people who administer HUD rules
for public housing agencies. I design and write the software manuals,
flyers, advertisements, web page, catalog, brochures, and other marketing
fluff. I create whatever graphics need creating. I edit, format, and desktop
publish materials dealing with US housing law. I design and create
Powerpoint presentations for various purposes. I?m the house internet person
for everything but writing cgi script, and I?m learning that now. I do phone
support for customers buy some text files we sell and can?t figure out how
to copy them onto their hard drive or open them in WordPerfect or Word. I
pick up the mail at the post office on my way to work and drop off the
outgoing on my way home.

On my own time, I write other stuff, such as books on maritime subjects
based on my previous life as a merchant marine master. (I particularly like
The Captain?s Guide to Liferaft Survival ? I forget the isbn-- in which my
ordinary writing style was only slightly stiffened by a copyeditor who
thought me too colloquial.) I?ve written two bad novels, one twice and the
other is on its fourth try. I also teach desktop publishing part time at the
local community college and tutor word processing. I don?t hang out with
computer folks, so I?m technical support for everyone I know.
