Ageism works both ways. The last company I worked for as an employee
had its average age rise at about one year per year. It started out as
a high-tech whiz-kid operation, but every year people seemed to want
one more year's experience in new hires. They ended, in large part,
with a bunch of overqualified, overpaid people who had been oversold
with the wonderfulness of the position they would fill, and then assigned
Junior Cadet work to do. This worked about as well as you'd expect.

The few new grads who got in the door all performed well,
caused fewer turf wars, and of course were paid less.
