In my previous position, I was not given business cards for the exact same
reason you mention: no outside contact with CUSTOMERS. Well, when I went off
to the international STC conference for the first year and did not have
business cards to hand out, I felt very awkward. So, I went to Office Max
(Office Depot, or any other warehouse type office supply store) and bought 1000
business cards for $15.00.
I had them put my name, a title, my work e-mail, my home e-mail, and my work
phone number. If they didn't want me to truly represent my company by
providing me with business cards, I was going to represent myself fairly and
get the people the information they requested.

(On my first day at my current position, I was given a set of business cards!
Talk about a difference!)

TTFN,
Michelle Corbin Nichols
