A while back, a company called AstonTate did something similar with a
product called DataBase 4. The product was not downward compatible and
all DataBase 3 programs had to be redone and recompiled.

The company is now BANKRUPT!.

Maybe a message should be sent to the almighty Bill. He too is
subservient to the market.

Actually, Ashton-Tate was bought out by Borland, which continues to
develop and market dBase. The latest is Visual dBase 5.5, a competitor
to Micro$oft Access 2.0. But you probably never heard of it because it
beareth not the MS name.

As for Bill, I don't believe he is subservient to the market any longer.
To the contrary, he creates it.
