Most HR course professionals advise you to be friendly
but not friends. Make sense?
Unfortunately to remain professional,
one must draw a firm line between work and
personal life.
Think about it. In this society it is a protective
stance to guard against against personal information
you have disclosed to a "friend"
being used or disseminated amongst your
fellow workers without your permission and
knowledge.
Not to mention leaving yourself open to
sexual discrimination suits (either direction).
Being a "team player" does not mean a personal
player.
