Try "LVIEW" It can convert GIFs to TIFs or BMPs [among others], either
of which can be inserted into a Word document. LVIEW is a shareware
program which you can find at:

http://www.lview.com

or explore other programs at:

http://www.shareware.com

I also use HIJAAK, which can also convert to MSWord native formats, but
it is not so cheap and you asked for something downloadable."
