Thanks go to Bill Burns, Al Rubottom, Sella Rush, Graham Dowden, Sandra
Charker, Beth Agnew, Clark Cone, and Dave Ziegler for sending me some
helpful information.

A few people wrote and asked for a summary. I'll do my best.

o Software: Allaire's Cold Fusion < http://www.allaire.com >

o Software: Tools from InSystems Technologies Inc. <
http://www.insystems.com >

o Software: A utility included with HotMetal Pro 4.0 called DTL Dataspot
Lite -- "advanced programming-free tool that givs you push-button
database publishing for web browser access.' < http://www.dtl.co.il >

o Software: WebFiler DB < http://www.webfiler.com > ("no programming or
SQL knowledge required" but it's allegedly powerful enough to handle
real DB publishing chores.)

o Reading: An article about creating a database-driven website in the
March 1997 issue of Electronic Publishing.

o Reading: A Que book called "Working with Active Server Pages".

o Further research: The Oracle website < http://www.oracle.com >. (This
person had been doing something similar in Oracle and suggested that the
information at Oracle might apply as well to SQL Server.)

Note to Sandra -- I tried to reply to you and the message bounced. I'll
include the "on topic" portion of my message to you below:
-----------------------------------

Intended audience: Our employees (about 600 of them) who are already
familiar with using the database through its regular GUI.

Subject areas: Combination project management / resource management /
personnel management / labor accounting system. BUT, we are going to
start off just putting the labor accounting feature on the Web. This
way, employees, while traveling (and not), will be able to input their
labor hours without waiting until they get back to work or have someone
else do it for them while they're away.

(For the record, they can do it now while traveling, through a different
method (remote access server), but someone thinks that making it
web-accessible will be more convenient. And I suppose that's true.

------------------------------------
Thanks again, everyone!
