While I know the above comment from barryk -at- MDHOST -dot- CSE -dot- TEK -dot- COM was partially
in jest, if that's the case: move on. In San Diego's "Telecom Valley"
technical writers are in DIRE need. There's head-hunters at the local
burger and deli shops; e.mail hunters [even at this forum] who'll cold-call
you; and agencies who keep calling eight months after you began a job
search . . . .

Of course, this will change overnight if there is a hiccup on the economy.

Point being, in this area, there is enough 'work' in San Diego county to
give a tech writer leverage with his/her boss in working long hours.
