Kim asked about directions of joystick movement.

My take on this would be "Move the joystick toward/away from/to the
left/to the right"

The only caveat to this is you need to have the joystick oriented in
a specific direction to use these. To define this, use a diagram
showing the movements or explain how to orient the joystick to
observe the desired action. One example would be:

Place the joystick on a flat surface with the base of the joystick
oriented so the cord is located on the side away from you. When in
this position, instructions that refer to movement toward you mean
pulling the joystick handle toward you. Instructions that refer to
movement away from you mean that you must push the joystick handle
toward the side of the joystick that has the cord. Movement of left
and right will mean movement to your left and right.
