I like "Dynamics in Document Design" but do you really think that it is
appropriate for the class he was talking about?

The class is focusing on documentation for computer hardware and
software. Shriver's book is a more general book then I would want for
such a class.

I haven't read the other books you mention (they are on my list to read)
but aren't they also rather general?

Of course the appropriateness of general TC books for the class depends
on the students and the focus of the professor. If it is aimed at TC
graduate students, I would assume the class topics, and therefore the
textbook, will be very specific. If the class is for non-TC students,
then a general book might be necessary.
