Your experience was indeed unpleasant and you have my full
sympathy. I went through a downsizing where the company
expected us to keep coming in for another month and finish
our projects. I complied but a handful of people just
walked out that day. One was made to come back to restore
her PC. Apparently, she had deleted everything!

In retrospect, I believe it would have been better to be
bold than passive. I like the advice others have given you
on confronting the company and making them prove you did
something wrong. You have family obligations and may want
to get your spouse's backing on this. The bold way may be
rockier, but in 10 or 20 years you won't look back with
regret at having gone out with a whimper instead of a
bang.

My thoughts are with you,

Emmy Aricioglu
