The easiest way around this situation is to craft your own definition of
"value" based on several dictionaries that does not, word for word,
repeat any of the source definitions.

This should avoid the plagiarism argument and enter into the research
domain. The old adage applies - copy from one source and it's
plagiarism; copy from many and it's research. I actually liken this to
cooking - instead of slavishly following one recipe, look at several and
make up your own concoction.
