Hi -
A word of caution in reply to Andrew Plato's comments:

Departments are political entities and overstepping your
boundaries can
have serious repercussions if you "step on someone's toes". The
thing to
do is to nuture and cultivate the relationship with the
engineering
department without offending the manager/supervisor/boss who
signing
your timesheet for the marketing department.

You need to convince your boss that spending marketing time
taking notes
for the engineering meeting will benefit your documentation and
his
bottomline by giving you the information you need to effectively
and
efficiently get your job done. If you can't get him/her on-side,
then you
need to figure out a way that is acceptable to both of you.

If you can do this well and liason effectively between marketing
and
engineering, you will have the best of both worlds: first hand
contact
with your SMEs and your end users.
Good luck.
