Listers:

This is an issue that's been on my mind a bit --
what to take for granted about email.

My approach is to treat the "header" information
as if it were the envelope of a paper letter.
Anything I need or want the reader to know, I
include in the body of the email.

Of course, the header doesn't get thrown away, but
lots of things seem to shift around when I reply
or forward email.

Also, I am reminded a GUI design precept I
absorbed long ago: If it's not visible, it doesn't
exist. In other words, don't assume the
reader/user will remember information or controls
from a previous display.
