Curtis,

Thank you for your post, I enjoyed reading it and found it very interesting.
Some of the things you listed I knew because English is my second language
and because I speak 4 other languages besides English. I've had my own share
of awkward or down right funny moments in my life while learning English -- I
still do, learning a language is an ongoing process.

I teach introductory Spanish (which is not my native language) at the college
level and my greatest challenge is to teach my students (get this!) English
grammar. They are less than adecuately prepared in knowing (SP.: saber)
their own language! So how crazy must I look when I actually expect them to
produce Spanish communication that is, amazingly enough, grammatically
correct (or at least to some degree, for beginners) when, in fact, they
struggle with English?! I found that the best approach to both teaching and
learning a language is humor. Without it, I would have gone nuts long ago :-)

Thanks.
Odile
