A friend of mine wants to make a career switch from biomedical
research to technical writing. Being in the software industry, I
can help him a little with general tech writing guidance, but I
don't know the ins, outs, pros, or cons of tech writing in the
medical field. He has published a few pieces and has a good
writing background in addition to the research experience, so it
seems he'd be a good candidate. But I would be interested to know
what kind of writing is valued in the medical field, as well as
what secondary skills (like software tools) are a plus.

If you would be willing to correspond with me or him about getting
started in medical writing in the New Jersey/Philadelphia area,
please e-mail me off-list.

Many thanks,
