You have to admit that it's easier to say "vin number" or "pack code" or
"pin number" than "vee-eye number," "pee-ay code," or "pee-eye number." Our
language tends to prefer consonant-vowel-consonant patterns, which is
probably why the acronym-noun redundancies occur so often.
