In spite of my recent post re salaries in Seattle, I would definitely not recommend relocating here, especially as a contractor. There are just too many tech writers--good, experienced writers--out of work here.

In Seattle, we are accutely aware of the shift in jobs from Seattle (Boeing) to Texas (Lockheed) as a result of the Joint Strike Fighter military contract. Lockheed has been recruiting up here, and some people are making the move, but not as many as are being laid off. While I don't work in the aviation or military contract fields, there is an across-the-board effect.

Maybe this is true in Texas? An overall better job market? Not sure where exactly the JSF Lockheed facility is--Houston? Dallas? (Well ok, Enron's Houston may not be the best place to look for a job right now....) Certainly the Texas climate would not be a major factor to someone from Atlanta.
