In the past 8 months, Eastern Washington (Spokane) has taken almost a step
function down to few postings. The network market is alive and well, though.

I recently attended an STC meeting in which a local HR consulting firm
representative spoke about resumes and networking. He claimed that in an
area like Spokane (isolated, small, and filled with people who are here for
personal reasons like family), fully 85% of the jobs are found by
networking.
After that meeting, several members of that group began networking in
earnest. I have since passed on at least half a dozen job opportunities to
people I know.

Network, network, network. I'm newly converted to this philosophy.

BTW, if you can find a talkative HR consultant who won't spend the whole
time selling his consultancy, it makes a GREAT STC meeting.
