Hi Chris:

I hope that you have first made sure that FrameMaker is the right tool. I
have seen the unfortunately results when companies choose FrameMaker and
really needed PageMaker or some other tool.

If you--being familiar with frame--know this to be the right tool, then you
have part of your case. You know your documents and what Frame can do for
you, so that is another part. Here is a bit more.

You mention the book formatting and better indexing. You also have better
generated list handling (TOC/LOF/LOT) and easier updating of numbering
schemes. (Even very experience Word users have trouble getting the numbering
schemes to behave.) Don't forget *stability* and multiple output
capabilities beyond any word processor.

Bright Path Solutions is currently producing a report on the feasibility of
FrameMaker. It includes data on ROI (return on $ investment) based on
publishing criteria and company size. It is being developed by a marketing
firm here in Research Triangle Park, NC, but they are pulling the data
together by -- among other things -- interviewing companies who use Frame
and companies who no longer use Frame throughout North America.

The report is supposed to be done in about two months... according to the
marketing company. If anyone is interested in receiving the final report,
please email me at mailto:kethier -at- travelthepath -dot- com .

Hello!

I am needing to build a case for FrameMaker at my place of employment. Our
QA department is trying to push us to write our manuals in Word. Besides
being more familiar with FrameMaker, I am under the understanding that there
are many benefits to Frame over Word. HELP ME BUILD A CASE! I have the
following so far:

-Tech Author familiarity
-Book format (separate files)
-Better indexing methods

Any help on this would be GREATLY appreciated!

Regards,

Chris Morrow
