Since you state that the entire process shouldn't take more than 20-30
minutes, why not say so in an introductory paragraph to the procedure. Since
the procedure is ~50 steps, maybe break it down into logical chunks. I have
procedures for equipment installers, not management types, that go greater
than 50 steps. It is expected that the installer is to complete each
individual procedure before moving onto the next. Each set of procedures
gives the installer a logical break point before continuing with the next
procedure. If the complete task, all of the procedures required to install
the widgit, can be completed in one working day, which is entirely possible,
then there is a pointer to the next task. If the sun is going down, the
installer can just mark where he/she left off and pick it up in the morning.
