Unfortunately, grammar and high schools in this country ceased teaching logic and rhetoric long ago, and the ability to differentiate valid arguments from ad hominem attacks is virtually non-existent. Not only on the list, but throughout our society.

I observed months ago that, while Andrew Plato sometimes comes close to ad hominem comments, he never actually crosses the line - or, if he does, not often and not recently.
By contrast, while complaining about ad hominem attacks, his detractors are the ones who regularly make ad hominem attacks. Apparently, they see nothing wrong with engaging in the very behavior that they claim to find unacceptable.

I don't always care for Andrew's manner, and disagree with about half his opinions. But, frankly, his manner and opinions would have to be much, much worse for me to be as disgusted with them as I am by this double-standard.

At least Andrew made contributions to the list - financial ones as well as philosophical ones. All his detractors are doing is making the list less useful.
