Standing up and walking out on an interview proves that the candidate was not a professional.

That depends very much on the circumstances and on how you do it. Taking offense at something petty, screaming profanities and raising a finger at the interviewer as you storm away is unprofessional. If you have asked repeatedly that the interviewer stops objectionable behavior and it persisted, and you then politely terminate the interview, that's not unprofessional. It's a sign that, just as the interviewer is sizing you up, you have sized the company up, and have decided that prolonging the interview is a waste of time - no more, and no less.

Being professional does not mean being imposed upon. At times, it means asserting yourself with dignity.

Besides, tech writing is a small world, and you never know how your actions might influence another interview - we tech writers do gossip during STC and other get together. It would be a shame to have your name come up in conversation about the candidate who "ran away during the interview" to "go cry in the bathroom".

True, you shouldn't end an interview for trivial reasons. Moreover, if you make a habit out of leaving interviews, you should probably take a careful look at yourself.

At the same time, you can't control gossip, and,in this case, if you don't belong to the STC, you don't have to listen to it. There are times when self-respect is more important than worrying what people think about you.
