On this general topic--related to the licensing subthread--could someone with some perspective on current software trends and standards please clarify some confusion on my part?

Is there some point of tangency between the Linux OS world and the Web Services--Java/J2EE--.NET world? In other words, if one writes software that plays nice in the latter universe, will it be able to run transparently on Linux-based systems? Or am I asking a nonsensical apples-and-oranges question?

Help?

Thanks,

Dick
