You're probably right, Watson, but consider one of the primary reasons why:
Today, the _traditional_ Ward-and-June-Cleaver setup (husband works, wife
stays at home with the kids) is _also_ fairly rare. Among married couples
today, kids or no kids, the two-breadwinner setup seems to be by far the
most common.

I could point out that, nowadays, it takes a second salary just to pay the
taxes, but that would be veering into political commentary, wouldn't it? ;-)
