Call me crazy, but I think strategically all the time.
I don't look at tech writing as a "get in, write,
leave to pick it up again tomorrow" type of job. I am
always thinking about direction and outreach, and
implement changes over time. If I didn't think about
where docs should be 1, 3, or 5 years from now, I'd
have no direction for planning my workflow and
deliverables. That is, if you're not thinking
strategically, then you're playing catch-up.
