Oh, right. Having the opportunity is a wonderful
thing, provided you *do* have a solid game plan and
have buy-in.

But, as far as the platform goes, don't wait for it to
be given to you. Build it yourself whenever you can. I
do, and the benefits are wonderful. You build it
small... get an idea, plan it out, talk with the
direct parties about collaboration (works well if
everyone has a personal gain to reap), then become
ring-leader, and formally propose it to the powers
that be.

It works. Granted, in some environments it may fail,
as some environments will continue to foster building
working holiday weekends into a project plan and
include an HR department without career development
paths for hired positions.
