We do a lot of screen captures for manuals, online help and pdfs. Screen
captures have no resolution information - only pixel and color data. You
should set your resolution at the time of the screen capture using your
screen capture software or in a program like Photoshop. 8-bit, 120-dpi
BMPs are a good average.

I have also found that scaling a screen capture before importing it into a
DTP program works better than resizing in the application. I usually resize
in Illustrator. Sometimes I will save it as an eps or wmf (vector formats)
to get a sharper image for importing into Pagemaker. The eps looks bad on
screen, but converts to pdf and print (PS printer) and online help just
fine.
