Hi. My husband and I have been trying to relocate abroad for years and haven't had much luck at all. I've been told by some friends in Berlin almost the same thing Diane has told you. They've said, sell everything, move to Berlin and once established in a place to live start looking for a job.

Of course, if you're willing to move around there are still contracts that will pay you to come to a certain part of the country (Florida is the place we've been getting interest from) for a couple of months and work, live off a per diem, etc. That might also be a good way to eventually find a permanent position in a city you like... try and find a contract there and then market the heck out of yourself while in that city already working.

Most of the TW interest I get for contracts out of state are: specific medical writing, ERP sw like SAP, JD Edwards and Oracle.

Here is my suggestion: If you really want to move to another area, establish a presense there. Rent a mailbox at the local UPS Store or post office, or use the address of a friend or relative in the area. Then, get a prepaid cellphone with the "correct" area code. When it rings, you know it is a recruiter on the line!
