I'm wondering if the future of technical writing as a specialized career has
a limited future. As more people in diverse job junctions develop tech comm
skills, will there be as much need for dedicated tech comm workers? For
example, I am not currently working as a tech writer, per se, but I do
perform most of the tech writing tasks in my workgroup because I have that
skill set.

Personally, I'm finding a much more interesting variety of tasks while still
getting to do a lot of writing/editing work. The hard part, however, is
remembering that I'm not currently a tech writer (as much as I hate to admit
it, I do think I had internalized my career as part of my identity).
